22/12/06 Graydon would like to wish everyone a very merry christmas
and a happy new year. Obviously I would like to wish everyone the same and thanks for dropping by this year when it has been
a year that has been slow on the Graydon news to say the least. Enjoy the festive season ~ Jules.
5/9/06 Sorry for the delay in updating.. but having technical difficulties
this end!(again!) The match that Graydon and Jarkko played against Knowle/Melzer went really well, with them pulling through
that match 7-6(5),6-2. This match should have been played on Saturday, but with all the rain that New York has been having
it was played on Sunday instead. That set up a 3rd round clash with No. 6 seeds M.damm/L.Paes that was played on Monday
on Court 8, 3rd match of the day.. Unfortunately this was the end of Graydon's run at the US Open.. as they got beaten 6-4,6-2.
I will hopefully be talking to Graydon in the next couple of days as he's now back at home in Houston, hopefully I get get
him to write a little piece about his time in New York. But well played Graydon, I'm sure everyone loved having you
back out there again.
2/9/06 Graydon and Jarkko are back out on court at 11am, on court
6 in New York for their second round match against Knowle/Melzer today. Its going to be a tough match for Graydon
and Jarkko, as these guys play together alot and have had alot of success together, Jurgen has won 2 doubles titles
this year, Morocco with Julien Knowle and Newport R.I partnered with Robert Kendrick. If you are there in
New York, cheer loudly for Graydon ok!
1/9/06 It puts a huge smile on my face to report the score of this
first round match for Graydon and Jarkko. After losing the first set 6-4, it was all sailing along evenly in the second
until 4-4 when when Ginepri was serving at 30-40.. GO/JN grabbed the point and went ahead 5-4 and Graydon was then serving
for the set,he took it 6-4 with a love service game. Robert Kendrick started serving at the start of the 3rd set, but
an immediate break gave Graydon and Jarkko the start they wanted.. before I knew it it was 4-0, 4-1, at 1-5 with Ginepri serving
it was only the one match point that was needed for Graydon and Jarkko to grab the set an impressive 6-1. Final result
4-6,6-4,6-1. In the next round they will face the No.11 seeds from Austria, Julian Knowle and Jurgen Melzer. I'll
be back with a OOP when its available.. Well played today.. very happy for you!
1/9/06 Finally Graydon gets to play today, its like Wimbledon all
over again waiting for his first round match and it not being played until Friday.. There has been a change of opponents too.
With both Gael and Paul Henri out of the singles, I assume one of them must be injured, as Graydon and Jarkko will now face
R.Kendrick/R.Ginepri. The match is due to be played on court 9, 4th match of the day after an 11 am start, between 4
and 5 p local time at a guess.. I'll be watching and cheering the scoreboard from here.. Best of luck Graydon and Jarkko.
29/8/06 With the US Open well underway now, I thought I would check
the schedule to see if Graydon was going to be playing today before posting the draw.. but he's not, althought the mens doubles
event does kick off today. Graydon and Jarkko have drawn the french pairing of Gael Monfils and Paul Henri Mathieu in
the first round. This is Gael's 10th doubles tournament of the year, 5 of which have been with Paul Henri, and Paul
Henri's 8th event. They have won a couple of matches along the way but never progressed past the second round.. Fingers
crossed for a win here Graydon. Will be back with the OOP when its out.
27/8/06 Graydon is now in NYC and preparing to play the US Open this
coming week. He flew out there yesterday, and will be pairing with Jarkko Nieminen again as he did at Wimbledon. The
doubles draw hasn't been made as yet, but as soon as its out I will make sure the site is updated and we'll be keeping a close
eye on his progress this week. If any of you are at the Open this year, please take some photos of Graydon for the site...
Many Thanks.. and Best of luck Graydon!
2/8/06 So World Team Tennis is over for another year and Graydon
really enjoyed his first season playing for the Houston Wrangles.. I am going to post a link to the stats page, as I have
said before I'm not totally sure if I understand the scoring system and format.. but it looks lots of fun and I wish they
would do something like this in the UK.. I think its a great way to get lots of people interested in Tennis. Very Pleased
to see Jan Mike back out there on court too, and I wish him well on his return to the tour after injury. I hope to catch
up with Graydon in the next few days and see if I can pin him down to write something for the site.. I know he's pretty busy
right now, but will do my best.. Also if any of you have photos from the team tennis events of Graydon I would love to see
them and maybe add them to the site.
Graydons stats wwt
17/7/06 Four more matches to update on, I've been away for the
weekend so little behind. Unfortunately the team standings at the moment leaves Houston Wranglers bottom of the
table. On 13 July a home tie against St.Louis Aces, very close one but Aces won 19-18 in a super tie break. Graydon
and Jan-Mike def. B.Wilson/J.P.Fruttero 5-2. In Mixed B.Wilson/A.Tsoubanos def. Graydon and Ahsha 5-0.
On 14 July it was an away trip against Kansas City Explorers, C.Morariu/B.Bryan def Graydon and Bryanne
5-1 and Bob and Mike Bryan def. Graydon and Jan-Mike 5-1 also.. This tie was lost 25-10.
On 15 July another away tie, this time against St.Louis Aces, Graydon and Jan-Mike lost the doubles
to J.P.Fruttero/B.Wilson 5-2, but Graydon and Bryanne won the mixed doubles 5-4. It was still another loss for
the Wranglers though 25-19.
16 July a home tie against Sacramento Capitals M.Knowles/S.Warburg def. Graydon and Jan-Mike 5-2 and
in the mixed M.Knowles/E.Likhovtseva def. Graydon and Bryanne 5-4. This tie was lost 24-17
The next match is on the 18th at home against Delaware Smash, Graydon will then miss the following
two matches on the 19 and 21st and Torrey Gambill will step in for him.
12/7/06 Graydon didn't play against Newport Breakers away last night,
but it was another loss for the Wranglers 23-16. Jan Michael's brother Torrey stepped up to play the mixed and the mens
doubles, but the only team win match was the ladies doubles. Next up is a home match against St.Louis Aces on 13 July.
10/7/06 Well I promised you an update with the Team Tennis results.. but
to be honest I'm not really sure how accurate I will be as I'm not sure I understand the whole scoring system. I'm sure anyone
reading this in the States will understand, but from what I can gather there are 5 matches played, but all just being 1 set,
so winner takes all. The sets are being played with a tie break at 4-4 instead of 6-6, so the set can be won 5-4 or
5-3 whatever.. Ok so in the first tie Houston Wranglers played Philadelphia Freedoms and the team result was a win 19-17.
Graydon played mixed doubles with Bryanne Stewart and they lost 5-2. Then he also played doubles with Jan Michael Gambill
and they won 5-4.
Tie two was away to Springfiled Lasers, they lost this tie 23-15. Graydon only played mens
doubles at this one and he and Jan Mike lost 5-3. Tie three was a reverse of this match but played at home, but
it was the Lasers that came through again winning the tie 22-18. Graydon and Jan Mike lost their doubles 5-3 again,
but Graydon this time played mixed with Ahsha Rolle and they won thier match 5-2. So far they only have the one win
and two losses. The next match is to be played tomorrow against Newport Beach Breakers and that match is away.. Not
sure if Graydon is playing this tie as I haven't heard from him yet, I know he is only playing 11 of 14 matches though.
Will keep you informed as I know the news.
9/7/06 Sorry for not putting the team tennis results up so far, its
been a busy weekend and I really wanted to get all the photos on the site, which I have done, they are under Wimbledon 2006,
take a look if you haven't already. I will update with the results tomorrow after they have played their 3rd team
match. I can tell you that so far Graydon and Jan mike have played 2 doubles ties and have won 1 and lost 1. Be back
tomorrow.. enjoy the photos.
6/7/06 So more Graydon news.. He will be playing World Team Tennis
for the first time. He'll be joining Jan Michael Gambill, Mardy Fish, Anna-Lena Groenfeld, Bryanne Stewart, Ahsha Rolle for
the Houston Wranglers. Their first match is tonight against Philadelphia Freedoms and the gates open at 5pm. Check
out the teams homepage for scores and updates.. I'll also be updating here.
Houston Wranglers
4/7/06 It was so good seeing Graydon again.. I can't believe its
been a whole year since I last saw him... I guess as we are in touch a fair bit it doesn't seem as long as that. I was
pleased to see his name in the mixed doubles draw as well as the doubles, he was going to be playing with M.Tu this year.
Ironically with the rain at the start of the week moving all matches back a bit, Graydon didn't get to play at all until Friday,
when he had both matches scheduled on court 19. His doubles with Jarkko first and the mixed match after a ladies match in
the middle. It was so nice to see Graydon smiling out there and enjoying a first round match so much. They took
the first set 6-3, I wasn't completely sure on how the scoring was going to work, with this event being a grand slam, but
we are back to the old scoring system here, playing a proper full set with ad scoring and also being Wimbledon the Mens doubles
is played best of five sets. The Czech pairing picked up their game and ended up winning the match 3-6,6-3,7-6,6-1.
We had a nice chat at the end of the match and said we would be back for the mixed a little later. The mixed doubles
match was against Paul Hanley and T.Perebiynes, Paul and Graydon are good friends and it was funny to see the looks they were
giving one another during the match, it must be odd playing against a friend, but I guess in Mixed doubles there is more of
a sense of fun about it and its a little more lighthearted. The end result of this one was a win for Hanley/Perebiynes
6-2,7-6. So Graydons Wimbledon was over in one afternoon.. I think he had a good time though, the family were over to
support him, Hi to his Mom and Dad.. lovely chatting with you as always. I have taken a fair few photos, so as soon
as I can get them on the site, have look and let me know what you think.. Should be with you by the weekend at
the latest. So Graydon.. Great to see you again, 'I hope I never become so used to the world that it no longer
seems wonderful' don't you agree?? Back with photos very soon ~ Jules
25/6/06 Wimbledon Doubles draw... Yes it was made on Friday, but
I have been in Nottingham watching tennis, Sorry it has taken me until now to post it. Graydon and Jarkko will face
the Czech pairing of Hernych/Skoch in the first round, they are in the bottom half of the draw, but I don't know if that has
any bearing on when the match will be played. Mens doubles starts at Wimbledon on Wednesday so I'm hoping it will be played
then! Its been too long since I've seen Graydon play!! Send all your positive vibes to him this week guys.. He
arrived in the UK yesterday and I hope I'll catch up with him today or tomorrow. I'm at Wimbledon for the whole of the
first week.. so keep an eye on the scoreboard to see how he does.. I'll be back with loads of photos ~ Jules
31/5/06 FANTASTIC NEWS... I have been dying to add this to the site
for ages now.. but I have had the ok now.. Graydon will be playing at Wimbledon this year.. Yep, he will be teaming up with
Jarkko Nieminen from Finland in the doubles event. Graydon's ranking now stands at 78, but as you all know he hasn't
played since last September. I can't tell you how excited I am about him playing this event.. I know its one of his
favourites. So the Grass courts in SW19 will be where Graydon will be as of June 26th. I'll be back with more when I
know it, and it goes without saying that I will be taking loads of photos!!
5/1/06 Happy New Year All... Hope everyone had a good christmas and
New year also... Well I am in Australia (as it has become a regular escape for me from the British winter!) but Graydon isn't....
I am hoping to have a piece from him any day now to put on the site... but as my internet access is infrequent and Graydon
is a busy guy right now.. it may be a few days longer again... So for now I hope you are all enjoying 2006... I know I plan
to!!
23/11/05 Graydon has dropped another 2 places in the rankings since
I last updated 2 weeks ago, but if you remember this time last year he was still playing out the season. He now
stands at 46 in the entry system. He has promised to write something for the site in the coming weeks, so all I can
say is keep dropping by and hopefully we'll have something for you soon. There is a new photo of Graydon with Scott and Mice
from Thailand on the Fans page, the photo was taken during this years Thailand open.. Thanks Mice..
22/11/05 The ATP finalizes changes to doubles for 2006. On Nov 20
the press release stated that the changes for the 2006 season and beyond had been aggreed and finalized. Some of the
changes they experimented with from the time after the US Open have remained and some have been removed. "As of the
new season ATP and ATP Challenger matches will use a scoring format featuring two sets to 6(tie break at 6-6), no-ad games
and a match tie break(first to 10 points win by two) at one set all. Entries next year will be based on a players best
ATP ranking either in singles or doubles, similar to practices used at Grand Slams and ATP Challengers, providing
both singles and doubles players equal ability to enter the doubles draws". Well to me it still seems like we are being
cheated of Doubles the way it should be... Although these changes are better than the ones that they originally played around
with.
8/11/05 Another drop of one place in the doubles rankings for Graydon
this week. So his ranking stands at 44. Thanks for everyone dropping in to check for news even though there isn't
anything I can post right now~Jules.
2/11/05 I really don't have anything for you I'm afraid.... I haven't
even spoken to Graydon in the past week and I don't know the last time that much time passed without even an e-mail or whatever...
Graydons ranking has only dropped one place this week to 43. I miss having updates for you guys.. but I guess the tennis
season as a whole is coming to an end again for another year... Please keep dropping by though.. I may be able to add photos
and info when I get it ~Jules.
